Cell culture techniques, Basic Molecular Biology methods and Advanced Microscopy techniques have become essential tools for basic and applied research, namely in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biotechnology or Medicine. Therefore, this course aims to:

  • Improve theoretical and practical fundaments of cell and tissue culture techniques to provide students with the ability to adapt basic cell culture procedures for specific research requirements. Topics covered will include differentiation of primary cells, cloning and selection, cell separation, characterization, transformation and molecular techniques.
  • Provide a practical and theoretical framework on basic aspects of molecular biology, with a focus on gene expression
  • Introduce Fluorescence and Confocal microscopy as tools in Biomedical Research.

The course has a strong practical component, with a true “hands on” approach, which allows the participants to acquire the necessary skills to apply the above referred techniques to their research programmes.

This course does not provide credentials for the exercise of medicine for those without appropriate training, recognition and registered at the "Ordem dos Médicos".
