The PhD in Medicine (PhDMED) is targeted at doctors (both residents and specialists). Its goal is to provide research skills in medicine and health sciences for the development of independent biomedical and clinical research within academic, industrial and/or
healthcare institutions based environments.

| Holders of the doctoral degree in health sciences should be able to: |
| 1. | To design and carry out scientific research, at the
doctoral level, respecting the requirements imposed by the standards
of academic quality and integrity; |
| 2. | Critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and
complex ideas; |
| 3. | Integrate research teams and to develop teamwork
skills; |
| 4. | Communicate with peers, the academic and scientific
community and the society, about subjects in which they are
