This modular course provides a relevant level of understanding of the national and international regulatory framework within which projects involving animals are constructed and managed, and of the legal responsibilities of the persons involved in the use of animals for scientific purposes. All relevant legislation will be covered considering the learning outcomes listed in the detailed information.

The course programme follows the European Commission recommendations for the Education and training framework, covering training modules 1 and parts of module 23, required for persons of all functions a), b) c) and d), as stated in Article 23 of Directive 2010/63/EU (including national legislation) or in Artigo 31.º of Decreto-Lei n.º 113/2013 of 7th August. The content of the course regards to legislation applicable to the use of rodents for scientific purposes.

Target audience

Researchers or technicians that have already attended a Laboratory Animal Science course in a foreign country and need to complete their training with these modules to be able to obtain authorization for the above-mentioned functions a), b) c) and/or d), in Portugal.
