Regenerative Medicine deals with the process of restoring, repairing and improving the normal functions of damaged tissues or organs to extend and improve quality of life. The complexity of Central Nervous System (CNS) pathologies has been demanding for the development of integrative therapies that combine different fields of science. Indeed this has been the most recent trend in neurotherapeutics. However, this trend has not been followed by the majority of the workshops (both national and international), which generally tend to focus on one or two isolated topics (e.g. neuroinflammation or axonal growth), and not in the overall integrated picture. Therefore the objective of this course is to comprehensively discuss the current state of the art in relevant areas of Neural Regenerative Medicine research in the most integrated possible form. The purpose is to create a unique multidisciplinary forum of debate that can foster new ideas and strategies that can pave the way for innovative approaches within this field. |
- Comprehensive Understanding: Offer lectures covering fundamental principles of Regenerative Medicine and Neurotherapeutics, addressing both current research trends and clinical perspectives. - Establishment of In Vitro Models: Provide practical sessions on establishing in vitro models of primary cultures of neurons and glial cells, enabling participants to explore cellular interactions and responses in controlled environments. - Surgical Skills Development: Equip participants with technical proficiency in CNS surgery using rodent models, with a focus on one traumatic and one neurodegenerative pathological condition: Spinal Cord Injury and Parkinson's Disease. Participants will gain hands-on experience in laboratory settings, learning surgical techniques, and the handling and care of injured rodents. - Outcome Measurement Techniques: Teach participants how to assess behavioral recovery, physiological changes, and neuroanatomical outcomes following experimental interventions. Participants will learn to employ a range of assessment tools to quantify the efficacy of therapeutic interventions accurately.
