Studying Medicine at the University of Minho

The curriculum for the Medicine course at the University of Minho (MinhoMD) combines teaching based on disease mechanisms with clinical practice based on the best evidence. Since its inception, the Medicine course has been structured in full compliance with the Bologna process. The first three years of the course lead to a Bachelor's degree in Basic Medical Sciences and at the end of the six-year course, students obtain a Master's degree, qualifying them for access to all medical specialties available in Europe.

The new study plan, MinhoMD, was introduced in 2020/21 with a diverse, personalized and autonomous curriculum - in which students define their own path. MinhoMD was designed jointly by the entire School of Medicine community: from teachers and researchers to students, as well as representatives from health institutions, former students and patients. In 2026/2027, MinhoMD will benefit from an update that has been thought out, discussed and co-constructed by the School of Medicine community.
