In order to acquire competency in EUS it is essential not only to master the use of an echoendoscope, but also to have a thorough anatomical knowledge and be able to interpret the images on the fly. Other essential skills, often overlooked include the detailed knowledge of the indications, risks, limitations and alternative techniques, especially in interventional EUS.

EUS courses, which provide simultaneously the state-of-the-art essentials of the technique and offer the opportunity for hands-on training in live animal models, including advanced EUS interventional procedures, are scarce worldwide. During the course, both trainees and advanced echoendoscopists will have the occasion to review the main topics of EUS, through cutting-edge presentations by national and international experts in the field. Demonstrations of real cases with step-by-step discussions of alternatives actions will allow close interaction with the faculty. During the course, trainees and experienced echoendoscopists, will have the opportunity for practice basic and advanced EUS skills in not only in specialized models, but also in live pigs, supervised by experienced echoendoscopists.

We deeply believe that these skill-based courses, directed to both experienced endoscopists and EUS trainees, will improve the quality and collaboration of the EUS community.
