The Bioinformatics in Health Sciences course aims at presenting and providing practical training in the application of computational methodologies to the organization, analyses and comprehension of data generated in biological and health sciences research. By the end of the course the students will be able to identify situations where Bioinformatics is useful in the resolution of a specific problem and skilfully chose and implement the appropriate computational technique.

The course will involve a strong practical component, providing training in the identification, application and interpretation of the significance of the results obtained by a wide range of freely-available Bioinformatics tools. Course participants will be confronted with biological questions that will be solved throughout the course with tutorial support. This will be an integrative course illustrating multiple aspects of Bioinformatics, aiming at providing diverse routes for Biomedicine problem-solving processes. The most relevant themes will be presented and discussed by a varied range of specialized lecturers.

This course does not provide credentials for the exercise of medicine for those without appropriate training, recognition and registered at the "Ordem dos Médicos".
