At the conclusion of this course, the clinician will be able to:

  1. Understand the importance of anatomy in surgery;
  2. Describe effective room set-up for laparoscopy;
  3. Describe patient positioning and trocar-placement for laparoscopic gynecologic procedures;
  4. Determine the fundamental techniques in laparoscopic suturing;
  5. Demonstrate optimal bite placement and knot tying technique during laparoscopic tissue approximation;
  6. Predict, manage and prevent complications, including ureter, bladder and bowel injuries in laparoscopic surgery;
  7. Know about electrosurgery as a very useful surgical tool - its actions and its complications;
  8. Apply the skills necessary to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy and pelvic reconstructive surgery while minimizing conversions.
