Before starting the course
- Students are expected to have basic knowledge in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Learning aims
This post-graduation course addresses the basic principles of cancer biology. The specific learning outcomes are to:
1. Identify the main hallmarks of cancer;
2. Explain the basic principles of dysregulation of gene expression in cancer;
3. Identify the genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer;
4. Explain the main signaling pathways and their roles in cancer;
5. Identify cellular interactions in the tumor microenvironment, including immune responses;
6. Identify the main therapeutic strategies in cancer;
7. Describe the main preclinical models (cells and animals) used in cancer research.

Supporting material
- Scientific papers and hands-outs of theoretical lessons.
