This one week advanced course in bioethics and research integrity is organized in four modules. Participants can register for any individual modules or full week (4 modules). Module 1: Bioethics, Research Integrity, Biobanking and GDPR (max. 40 participants)

 Monday, May 20th 2019
 14:00-18:00- Introduction to bioethics and research integrity;
- Commonly used terms in research ethics;
- Codes and policies that apply to research ethics;
- Case studies and group discussions.

 Tuesday, May 21st 2019
 09:00-13:00- Introduction to biobanks;
- European ethical and legal recommendations in biobanking;
- General data protection regulation (GDPR): rules and principles applied to biobanks.

Module 2: EMBO workshop | Scientific Integrity: how to publish reproducible results (max. 20 participants)

 Tuesday, May 21st 2019  
 14:00-18:00In this interactive workshop, Dr. Ieva Gailite (EMBO Press editor) will work with participants to explore the principles and challenges of integrity and reproducibility. Discussion topics will include:
- How to increase the knowledge of research integrity;
- Good practices in the collection, analysis and reporting of data;
- Dealing with common conflicts (data or people);
- Issues that can arise during publication and how these might be avoided by applying good research principles.
  
  This workshop will be delivered by EMBO Press Editors and participants will receive a specific certificate from EMBO.

Module 3: Ethical and Key Legal Principles in Research (max. 40 participants)

 Wednesday, May 22nd 2019
 09:00-18:00- International ethics recommendations and rules that guide research projects;
- Research involving human participants;
- The process of informed consent;
- Case studies;
- Ethical and institutional safety requirements for laboratory animal science.

Module 4: Scientific Integrity: An Overview (max. 40 participants)

 Thursday, May 23rd 2019 
 09:00-18:00- Promoting ethical literacy in research;
- Scientific environment and research culture;
- Researchers' responsibilities to society;
- Round table, case studies and general discussion.

 09:00-13:00- End of Week 1: what the participants have learnt versus projected overall course goals;
- Self-assessment Quiz.
