Science lives on its credibility and it is consensual that one of the missions that today is imposed to researchers and institutions committed to the advancement of science is to educate and prevent misconduct research practices. The researcher has to perform professional activities subordinated not only to the universal ethical values, but also to those derived from the commitment to the construction of science as a collective patrimony. This is referred to as "integrity of research". As such, the issue of scientific integrity deserves continuous monitoring and institutions of science are responsible for ethically training responsible scientists and ensure that research is carried out in accordance with strict standards of scientific integrity.

In the present course we intend to raise awareness of research integrity issues and encourage responsible research practices among scientists. In accordance with the "Singapore Statement of Research Integrity", we will focus on the four fundamental principles of responsible research: honesty, accountability, professional courtesy and fairness, and good stewardship. At the end of the course, participants should be able (i) to set out basic principles for scientific integrity and research ethics, (ii) to be aware of the basic principles for designing, conducting and reporting research, and (iii) be trained to ensure accountability and advocacy in research. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss practical cases, putting in place structures or processes to foster good research practices, highlighting the importance of honoring the principles of responsible research.
